I’m not crazy. And Yes, Travel Agents — Travel Planners — Travel Consultants — Travel Professionals – do still exist!
OK, so maybe I’m a little crazy. But that’s another discussion! I’m a travel consultant because I LOVE travel, I love to share travel experiences, and I want to help YOU create the travel experiences of your dreams. But you would not believe how often I get asked the following questions:
Do Travel Agents still exist? Don’t most people just book travel themselves on the internet? Sure, the internet has made it accessible to book your own travel. But for many people, the number of choices can be mind boggling – from where to go, how to get there, where to stay, what to do… and then which site to book with! And it can be time consuming – there are hundreds of details to consider. Much of the information available is misleading or incomplete. As a result, many people who have booked their own travel in the past are returning to work with a travel consultant. A good travel agent is familiar with a wide variety of travel providers and will navigate through all of this to find the right elements for your vacation.
Can’t I find it cheaper on the internet? Well, maybe. If cheap is your standard, by all means book the cheapest thing you find! Many of the great deals, especially those through websites focused on price, have hidden limitations or extra costs, or simply don’t deliver as expected – have you ever arrived at your destination and wondered where or when they took the picture you saw when you were booking? You might be OK with this – but if you don’t like surprises, be sure to dig out all the details before committing your money and time. If value is what you’re looking for, travel agents have experience and industry relationships that allow us to offer exclusive vacation packages, amenities and specials that are only available through us. We’re familiar with a wide variety of travel providers, and have the knowledge to match your destination with your expectations. And travel agents deliver value by finding the best and most complete options to meet your desires and budget.
But don’t travel agents mark up the price? How do they get paid? In general, travel agents earn a commission from travel suppliers when you book through them. If you book the same vacation yourself, the travel supplier doesn’t deduct the commission from what you pay – they keep it for themselves. In most cases, there’s no cost or obligation to have a travel agent plan your vacation.
Wouldn’t it be better to rely on the input of my well traveled friends? I love to hear about my friend’s vacations, and I love to see vacation photos. I get some good ideas from hearing about those experiences, but I don’t always want the exact same vacation. A good travel agent will take the time to understand your unique travel needs, preferences and interests. Then we use our training and knowledge to research and find the perfect travel experience for you.
My goal is to make your vacation as memorable as my own. At LBAC Travel, we are about Making Dreams Come True, One Vacation at a Time.
